A Global Company.
A Global Commitment.
At Maxeon Solar Technologies, our highly advanced solar products are powering the fight against climate change in more than 100 countries around the globe.
As a purpose-driven global organization, we believe we can make the greatest impact by joining the 12,000 + companies in 160 countries who also believe that together, we can make the world a better place.
That is why, beginning in our first year of operation in 2020, Maxeon Solar Technologies is committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, solar panel sustainability and anti-corruption.
The World Leader in Solar Panel Sustainability
Building a Better Tomorrow
Central to our UN commitment is the alignment of our ESG strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This global framework lays out 17 goals adopted in 2015 by all 193 Member States of the UN.
It is the ideal blueprint for broadening our approach to sustainability and decarbonisation across the more than 100 countries we serve.
While our operations impact each of the 17 SDGs directly and indirectly, Maxeon will be focusing on four specific goals. In 2021, we set our 2030 ESG long-term targets for each of these four SDGs in support of the global transition to clean energy.
Measuring our Impact
Not only do our products help others reduce their carbon footprint, but we measure our own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) impact. View our latest sustainability report via the link below. Prior reports are available in the resource library located at the bottom of this page.
Manufacturing & Solar Panel Sustainability
Solar panel sustainability requires thinking about their impacts in a multi-dimensional way. Long term change will come from rethinking the way we make and use consumable products. As such, we annually track and record key metrics associated with the manufacture of SunPower products, including water use, energy use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Learn more
Cradle to Cradle Certified™
SunPower Maxeon direct current (DC) panels were the world’s first solar panels to earn the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Certified—Silver designation for solar panel sustainability. For this certification, panels go through a rigorous evaluation of sustainable practices in the areas of: material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.
Cradle to Cradle Certified is a certification mark licensed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Visit the Cradle to Cradle website for more information on the evaluation categories.

Water Mission Saves Lives with Clean, Safe Water and Sunshine
Around the globe, Water Mission provides safe water—and hope—to those who desperately need both. From responding to the emergency need for safe water in the wake of a catastrophic natural disaster, to building the long-term water infrastructure that can sustain a remote community, their efforts get safe water flowing and help communities rebuild.
Earlier this year, we profiled Water Mission’s work in Western Tanzania where the organisation’s ongoing relief efforts provide clean water to thousands of residents displaced by violent political unrest and economic decline in neighbouring countries.
Positive energy building of the future
Introducing Be Issy, a modern-concept residential and commercial green building in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, producing more energy than it consumes and demonstrating ultimate efficiency and energy production in new green design and solar panel sustainability.
By harnessing the power of SunPower solar panels, as well as many other sustainable materials, techniques, design and architectural concepts, Be Issy sustains its day-to-day operations and more.
It conveys modernity and futuristic thinking in its functional tripod design, use of green space, responsible aesthetic and many tributes to biodiversity throughout.
Going Landfill-free
Our panel manufacturing plant in Mexicali, Mexico has been recognized with the solar industry’s first and only Zero-Waste-To-Landfill certification. The certification, published by NSF International, requires that no greater than 1% of material from a facility is sent to a landfill and no more than 10% of material is sent to a waste-to-energy facility.
The factory has maintained this high bar through annual audits since 2015 and remains an expression of our leadership and commitment to solar panel sustainability.
Sustainability Powerhouses in the Cold North
Energy-positive buildings produce more clean and renewable energy than they consume in their lifetimes, including construction and demolition. They even offset the embodied energy in the materials used to construct the buildings.
The latest example of this approach is Powerhouse Brattørkaia, an energy-positive office building in the northernmost reaches of Norway. Designing a building to cover its own energy use is one thing, accounting for the energy used to manufacture all of the building's materials is quite another. But it was SunPower's commitment to solar panel sustainability clinched the deal. Powerhouse Brattørkaia demonstrates what's possible when environmental design principles come first.
Panels as Sustainable as the Energy they Produce
The inaugural pv magazine Sustainability Award in 2019 recognized the sustainable design and business practices surrounding the production of SunPower Maxeon (DC) solar panels.
Always greener, always brighter
In 2023, the international business research firm Corporate Knights listed us among the World's 100 most sustainable companies. It recognizes our results in the sustainability of our supply chain, our respect for human and labor rights at the Company's factories, our circular economy practices such as recycling and lean manufacturing, and our female representation in the executive management team. Sustainability for Maxeon is a 360° commitment and at the core of everything we do. Here’s to a cleaner, smarter and brighter tomorrow!
